Career Progression - Tracey Pettey
With a busy home life and a six-year-old son to look after, mature student Tracy chose a flexible way of learning where she could fit study around work.
She received sponsorship from her employer, the NHS Direct in Dudley, with the agreement that she fitted the distance learning course around her own home life.
She gained Chartered Management Institute membership and was awarded the Level 3 Certificate in First Line Management 14 months later.
Tracy now works as a Unit Manager at a Dialysis Centre in Tipton, West Midlands, which is a private organisation treating National Health Service (NHS) patients. She has a team of 36 people reporting to her ranging from the Clinical Manager to a number of Health Care Assistants. She has achieved everything she set out to do.
"The certificate enhanced the skills I already had to be a competent line manager. The coursework made me much more confident, and the modules helped me to refine my skills and do my job in a professional way. I also found the support from my tutor invaluable.
During the course I experienced a bereavement and I found the flexibility to drop everything and pick the course up at a later date very useful."
